Full Time Plastic Surgeon
12/2010

Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona (PSNA) is a very well established, growing plastic surgery practice (diverse case mix - 1/3 cosmetic, 2/3 reconstructive/hand) located in beautiful Flagstaff, gateway to some of the planet's most varied and spectacular landscapes. PSNA has provided world-class cosmetic, reconstructive and hand surgery services to the entire northern Arizona region for the past twenty years. We seek a new fulltime associate and offer an outstanding opportunity, not only for rapid practice partnership but also for the eventual takeover of the practice, as the founders retire in the next ten to fifteen years.

Board-certified plastic surgeons, Steve Lex, M.D. and Jack Quigley, M.D. founded PSNA with the mission of providing state-of-the-art surgical services to residents of the entire northern Arizona region. In pursuit of this mission, the doctors provide plastic surgery consultations and treatments not only at their primary location in Flagstaff, but also at eight satellite locations throughout northern Arizona, including Sedona, Cottonwood, the Village of Oak Creek, Prescott, Kingman, Page, Payson and Lakeside. The Flagstaff facility, conveniently located across the street from Flagstaff Medical Center, is an eleven thousand square foot building that which houses both the plastic surgery clinic and Northern Arizona SurgiCenter (NASC), their ambulatory surgery center. NASC is a two-OR, Medicare-certified, state-licensed, AAAHC-accredited ASC occupying the lower half of the Flagstaff building.

Steve Lex and Jack Quigley first met during general surgery residency training at the Western Reserve Care System in Ohio in the early 1980s. Dr. Lex founded the Flagstaff practice in 1988 and was joined by Dr. Quigley in 1991. In 1996, they moved the practice into their new building and opened their ambulatory surgery center. Flagstaff, the largest town in northern Arizona, is the medical referral center for the entire northern half of the state. Flagstaff Medical Center is a state-designated level 1 trauma center and, due in part to the desirability of Flagstaff as a place to live, boasts a medical staff of unusually high quality for a town of this size, both in terms of the training of the physicians and the specialties represented.

PSNA provides ample surgical activity for three to four full-time plastic surgeons, and we are currently looking to bring on one or possibly even two new associates. This is an outstanding opportunity for a new residency or fellowship graduate, or for an established plastic surgeon, wanting to relocate to a gorgeous part of the country and wishing to enjoy the challenges and rewards of a thriving general plastics practice. In addition to the full array of cosmetic surgeries, injectibles and laser treatments, the large and diverse referral base affords a great variety of reconstructive surgery cases, from breast reconstruction and reduction, to aesthetic skin and head/neck cancer reconstruction, to correction of cleft lip/palate and other congenital anomalies, to microsurgery, to the treatment of maxillofacial and hand trauma, to endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery and the treatment of various other hand disorders. PSNA and NASC offer the most up-to-date surgical and laser equipment, as well as customized EHR software.

Flagstaff is a terrific family-friendly town, with a huge variety of recreational, educational, cultural and entertainment opportunities in close proximity. At 7,000 feet in elevation, the town enjoys a very sunny, four-season climate. The city offers an extensive urban trail system and the Coconino National Forest, which surrounds Flagstaff, is full of trails for hiking, mountain biking and trail running. The San Francisco Peaks, rising to nearly 13,000 feet, are situated just north of town, and provide abundant year-round outdoor recreation. Hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and skiing/snowboarding opportunities abound - the Snowbowl ski area is only thirty minutes outside of town, Flagstaff Nordic Center forty-five minutes away.

Northern Arizona University, one of the three state universities, is located in Flagstaff and affords many educational, cultural, and sports/entertainment resources to the city's residents. Flagstaff's beautifully restored historic downtown is a vibrant retail area of small, privately owned shops, restaurants, theaters and hotels. The "first international dark sky city", Flagstaff is home to the famed and historic Lowell Observatory and associated museum, as well as the U.S. Naval Observatory and the U.S. Geological Survey Observatory. The Museum of Northern Arizona, founded in Flagstaff in 1928, celebrates and illuminates the cultures and archeology of southwestern Native American tribes, as well as the ecology and geology of the Colorado Plateau region.

Within an hour's drive of Flagstaff, there are four national monuments involving archaeology and the prehistory of the area (Walnut Canyon N.M., Wupatki N.M., Montezuma's Castle N.M. and Tuzigoot N.M.). In addition to the Grand Canyon (ninety minutes from Flagstaff), northern Arizona offers numerous other National Parks, Monuments and Natural landmarks, including Sunset Crater (fifteen minutes outside town), Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest, Rainbow Bridge, Navajo National Monument, and Canyon de Chelly. In addition to the above, northern Arizona offers unsurpassed scenic/outdoor recreational destinations, including Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon (forty-five minute drive), Lake Powell/Glen Canyon (two hours), the Mogollon Rim Country (two hours), and Havasupai Canyon/waterfalls (three hours). Finally, northern Arizona is a sportsman's paradise, with unlimited hunting and fishing opportunities.
